On July 5, 2008 we had our third annual Summer Dayze VII Bike Show on the Courthouse Square in Decatur, Texas about 45 miles north of Ft. Worth. As usual, it was great turnout and it seems to grow a little bit every year we have this “Bike-til-you-drop” affair.
Of course, the weather did not disappoint us a bit this year either; it was hovering around 100 degrees all day before the evening affair. Which is, by the way, one reason we always have this annual Bike Show in the evening hours in baking-North Texas…it always turns out to be a nice evening with a decent breeze.
About 150 VERY Nice Scoots showed up this evening to enjoy life, scooters, and the pursuit of happiness, Biker Style.
Special thanks to Les and Fran Gholson, and their Club (BACA, Bikers Against Child Abuse) who came out for the first time this year and sponsored the Bike Games that everyone thoroughly enjoyed, even though most attending were spectators, not participants. We really appreciate all the hard work the folks from BACA did to make sure that Summer Dayze VII was a huge success. Now if we can only get the “Locals” to wake up, participate, and make this an even greater success for the whole community every year we come to town!
Charlie Russell, was also a first time guest who brought out his trailer filled with his “hand-Built’ Custom Scooters, and boy did the crowd of enthusiasts ever get a treat of some ‘Home-Grown-Texas’ customs! Charlie builds a really nice bike and does almost every bit of the building and fabricating himself from the ground up. Charlie Russell just recently moved his Custom Bike Company from Houston to the smallish city of Bridgeport, Texas and is setting up shop here from all your custom bike needs and wants. See Charlie’s website @; www.dementedcycles.com E-mail Charlie Russell, I know he would love to hear from you folks.
All in all we really had a great time at the Summer Dayze VII Bike Show in Decatur, Texas this year. But it might very well be the last time we get to hold this event on the Historic Square in Decatur because of the growth of our event.
First year started out about 80 Bikes, second year about 100, and this year about 150 with promised growth every year because of the popularity of motorcycles in the North Texas area. Of course we are a little “spoiled” because of the extended riding climate. And yes we do feel sorry for those who cannot ride regularly 8 out of the 12 months a year!
Special thanks to our Sponsors: Karl Klement Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep/Decatur, Texas, The Cabbage Patch Cafe, Decatur, Texas, and Charlie Moore's Race Stop dirt rack speed parts for helping with getting our awesome event T-shirts printed.
If you get the chance to E-mail me or visit our Bike Shows, please do. Youthdude180@yahoo.com
Our last Bike Show of the year is on September 20th this year at Yesterday’s Texas Oldies Cafe in Bridgeport, Texas, and we would love to have you come and be a part of the Show! Please also remember that all our Bike Shows are NOT FOR PROFIT but are to benefit Children’s Ministries and Homes for children without families.
God Bless you all, and drop us a line anytime. See you in September! Bro Bill “MOE” Moore
