Sturgis, SD—September 4, 2007 – Thunder Road, the custom capital of Sturgis, lived up to its name for the fifth year in a row. The turnout was incredible and the bike shows had more crazy customs than ever before. Official overall traffic numbers for Sturgis were up this year and vendors at Thunder Road saw an increase in sales.
Thunder Road is the premier space for bike shows in Sturgis because of its location, parking and enormous building, the Thunderdome. Different bike shows at the Thunderdome every day catered to a variety of bikers. They all drew record crowds.
Michael Lichter’s famed motorcycle-themed art exhibit, “One World Choppers” was a huge success as it examined the influence of builders and artists from outside the U.S. on motorcycle style and design through machines, word and art.
The guys from Orange County Choppers, Paul Tuttle Jr. and Sr., unveiled a new line of production motorcycles at the Metzeler Bike Show, to the excitement of the huge crowd.
The Seminole Hard Rock Roadhouse tour featured celebrities and their bikes, as well as photography exhibited by Michael Lichter. Many well-known custom builders stopped by throughout the event, keeping the thrills going.
Strokers Sturgis, brought by master builder, entrepreneur and star of Speed Channel's Texas Hardtails series, Rick Fairless, was the place to be in the Thunderdome. Ice-cold beer and rockin’ live music, along with customs from the world's top master builders made it one of the coolest beer joints in Sturgis.
“We have worked hard to make sure Thunder Road is an integral part of Sturgis Bike Week and the place to go for bike shows. We think this year was the best yet, with more shows and a greater variety of events than ever before,” said Gary Lippold, owner of Thunder Road.
Six days of bike shows and incredible events proves Thunder Road is still the custom capital of Sturgis after five years running, and why it’s famous as the place to go for everything custom in Sturgis.
Located 3 miles east of Sturgis on Highway 34, Thunder Road is hard to miss. With six acres of paved vending space full of high-end, custom, aftermarket vendors and the nearly 40,000 square foot Thunderdome, Thunder Road is the “Custom Capital of Sturgis Bike Week.” During the course of the week, Thunder Road is host to the most custom-bike theme events in Sturgis.
